Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for the Peter & Anne Lipke Professorship in Biology, an endowed tenured full-time Associate Professor position in the Department of Biology, with an expertise in Neuroscience and a starting date of August 2026.

The School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences at Brooklyn College offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its nine departments – Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer and Information Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Health and Nutrition Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. The Department of Biology is home to 15 full-time faculty including 2 lecturers who are committed to equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in their chosen careers. We serve nearly 700 majors in BA and BS Biology programs and offer minors in Biology, Biomathematics, Global Studies and Neuroscience. A new interdisciplinary B.S. degree in Neuroscience, collaboratively sponsored by the Departments of Biology and Psychology, has an anticipated launch date in 2026.

We provide training and scholarship opportunities for our PhD candidates drawn from the CUNY doctoral program in Biology, with its four sub-programs in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Neuroscience and Plant Sciences, and doctoral programs in Biochemistry and Earth and Environmental Sciences.  The Biology Department has a strong record of faculty-led research that includes funding from NIH, NSF and USDA as well as prominent regional and national foundations. Both undergraduate and graduate students participate in diverse and wide-ranging research that encompasses bioinformatics, cancer biology, developmental biology, ecology, evolution, genetics, microbiology, and neuroscience.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic academic community and contribute to advancing research, education, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the college and the CUNY system. Brooklyn College seeks faculty who are eager to engage with our diverse student body, including nontraditional student populations, and have a demonstrated commitment to inclusion in their research, teaching, and service.  The endowed professor will bring his/her unique creativity, insights and perspectives to a community that welcomes innovation and promotes excellence in research, scholarship, and teaching.

·      Advising undergraduate students, including academic guidance, career planning, and graduate school preparation.

·      Sharing in service responsibilities for committee and department assignments/initiatives and performing administrative, supervisory, junior faculty mentorship and other academic functions.

The endowed professor will be provided with:

·      Endowment Research Funds for a five-year term to supplement salary and research expenditures.

·      Dedicated renovated laboratory space within the Biology Department’s research facilities.

·      Start-up package to establish the faculty’s research program.

·      Additional funding for a PhD candidate student.

·      Access to advanced equipment in Biology’s “Molecular Interaction Core Facility”, (including flow cytometer, real-time PCR, ultracentrifuges, mid-range confocal microscope, fluorimeter, Fuji Imager, SPR, CD spectrometers, liquid scintillation counter), and in other STEM departments on campus as well as at the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center.

·      Opportunities for collaboration across CUNY campuses.
