Job Description

Summary

The Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine and Baylor St Luke’s Medical Center is seeking a Board-Certified Hematologist or Oncologist with experience and expertise in Cell Therapy and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) to serve as the Medical Director for our Cell Therapy and HSCT Program. This individual will provide clinical leadership, patient care, and program development while leading efforts to achieve Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) accreditation for cell therapy and subsequently for stem cell transplantation.

Job Duties

Clinical & Patient Care:

  • Provide expert clinical care in effector immune cell therapy (e.g., CAR-T, TCR-T, NK-cell therapy) and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
  • Develop and oversee patient treatment protocols, ensuring alignment with best practices and emerging therapies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including hematologists, oncologists, immunologists, and other transplant specialists, to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in and oversee the evaluation and management of clinical trial patients receiving novel cell-based therapies.

 

Program Development & Accreditation:

 

  • Lead efforts to establish FACT accreditation for cell therapy (Stage 1) and stem cell transplantation (Stage 2).
  • Develop and implement quality assurance, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and compliance protocols for cellular therapies and transplantation .
  • Work with regulatory bodies and institutional leadership to ensure compliance with FACT, FDA, CAP, and AABB standards.
  • Oversee the collection, processing, and infusion of cell therapies, ensuring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Serve as a liaison with transfusion medicine, apheresis, and laboratory teams to optimize cell collection, processing, and storage.
  • Lead Cell Therapy and HSCT case management team


Leadership & Education:

 

  • Recruit, mentor, and oversee physicians in the program.
  • Develop and deliver educational initiatives for faculty, staff, and trainees on cell therapy and HSCT best practices.
  • Represent the program in institutional, regional, and national committees focused on cell therapy and transplantation.
  • Participate in the development of robust research funding portfolio to support research and program expansion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in Hematology or Oncology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Cell Therapy and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.
  • Prior leadership experience in program development, quality initiatives, or clinical research preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cellular therapy regulations, and transplant protocols and prior experience with FACT accreditation process is preferred.
  • Experience in clinical trials and/or translational research in cell therapy is preferred.

The DLDCCC, and NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center is affiliated with Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, Ben Taub Hospital, the Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital. The O’Quinn Medical Tower is state-of-the-art 470,000 Sq Ft space which includes radiology services, radiation oncology, bronchoscopy/endoscopy, and an 80 bed infusion center that houses the DLDCCC’s Phase 1 unit. The 450 members of the DLDCCC generate more than $130 million of annual direct costs in cancer-related research funding, including more than $44 million in direct costs from the NCI. Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) recruitment awards are available on a competitive basis. The DLDCCC is composed of 6 well-funded research programs and 10 Cancer-specific Disease Working Groups that bring basic scientists and clinical researchers together for collaborative translational research.
