Summary of Work
Independently reviews and analyzes case files, researches applicable law, and evaluates case strengths, weaknesses, and strategic options. Assesses reconsideration requests, develops case strategies for counsel, and advises adjusters, supervisors, and agency staff on legal interpretations without attorney oversight.
Initiates and participates in settlement negotiations; directs and evaluates investigations involving claimants, employers, and providers; and recommends appropriate next steps. Drafts complex legal orders, stipulations, correspondence, and detailed research memoranda on statutory interpretation, legislative intent, and case-specific issues.
Utilizes research tools such as Westlaw, Modern Workers' Compensation Law, Session Laws, and state codes. Provides training and guidance to paralegals and staff, assists attorneys with assignments and special projects, and responds to public and internal inquiries by providing clear, accurate statutory interpretations and legal information.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires completion of a bachelor's degree with a major in paralegal, legal assistant studies, or pre-law
Two years of paralegal or legal assistant experience that included application of research and analysis to draft pleadings, discovery documents, motions, briefs, and other legal documents is required.
Work experience as a Certified Legal Assistant may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
