The
School Custodian will be responsible for cleaning and securing the school building daily at our
Academy for Young Minds (powered by Gersh) school in
Long Island City, NY .
Duties And Responsibilities - Clean and sanitize building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms with necessary products.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
- Gather and empty trash, breakdown cardboard boxes.
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Secure windows, shut off lights, walk through building to ensure all windows are closed and secured at the end of each shift.
- Adhere to all safety regulations + procedures.
- Use appropriate safety equipment when necessary.
- Complete daily cleaning check lists for each assigned room
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Clear walkways and steps of building and surrounding areas in the event of inclement weather. Spread rock salt, sand or other materials to ensure staff and student safety.
- Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Steam clean or shampoo carpets.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in maintenance and/or commercial cleaning
- Excellent communication skills
- Must possess a cell phone and must be comfortable sending / receiving emails
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be a “self-starter” who will be proactive in maintaining & cleaning the facility
- Able to work indoors and outdoors
- Able to work overtime as needed
Working Conditions - Location: Long Island City, NY
- Must be able to work in inclement weather
- Monday – Friday / 8:00a-4:30p
- Occasional before and after school work hours as needed
Physical Requirements - Ability to lift heavy objects and machinery over 50lbs
- Ability to move freely throughout building with no restrictions
The Pay Range For This Role Is 19 - 19 USD per hour(Queens LIC)
