Grand Peak Academy (GPA) is a kindergarten-eighth grade classical, Core Knowledge public charter school committed to providing excellent educational opportunities to students in Northeast Colorado Springs. Purpose statement
The Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) supports the delivery of speech and language services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLPA works with students individually and in small groups to implement therapy plans designed to improve communication skills that support academic and social success. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) supports speech and language services for students with communication needs. The SLPA works with students and school staff to implement intervention activities, collect data, assist with materials and documentation, and promote communication development consistent with student goals.
Student Services
Provide speech and language therapy services to students as directed by the supervising SLP
Implement treatment plans for articulation, language, fluency, voice, and social communication goals
Work with students individually or in small groups in accordance with IEPs or service plans
Support students in developing functional communication skills within the school environment
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with the supervising SLP to monitor student progress and adjust activities as directed
Communicate regularly with teachers and staff regarding student participation and classroom support strategies
Participate in IEP meetings and staff meetings as appropriate, under SLP guidance
Data Collection & Documentation
Collect, record, and maintain accurate data on student performance and progress
Prepare therapy materials and assist with documentation as assigned by the SLP
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policies
Program Support
Assist with screening activities and classroom observations as directed
Help maintain therapy materials, equipment, and instructional resources
Support inclusive practices by reinforcing speech and language strategies in classrooms when appropriate
Work under the direct supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in accordance with state and district guidelines
Follow all professional, ethical, and legal standards related to SLPA practice
Knowledge of speech and language development in children
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with IEPs and special education processes
School-based setting
Frequent interaction with students, staff, and families
Ability to support students with diverse communication needs
